Chinacat is an artist who works predominantly with linoleum blocks, acrylics, color pencils and watercolors. She studied Illustration for two years at the Fashion Institution of Technology in NYC and later moved to Rockford, Illinois. In 2010, Chinacat attended Rockford University and discovered her passions for printmaking. Her works showcase a combination of “Cute” characters created with “Humor” and “Macabre” overtones, hence, the tagline for Chinacat663 - “Cuteness Has A Dark Side Too”. Chinacat currently resides in Rockford where she continues to create new works to perfect her art.
From the Artist:
Like many other artists, I use art as a means for self-expression. In my case, I especially enjoy expressing both the cutesy and dark side of me. As a result, I often combine innocent and not-so-innocent images together in my work, and inject a small dosage of my kind of sense of humor to it.
Other than self-expression, I use art to pamper my subconscious by letting it roam freely, and an outlet for emotions I feel that are better illustrated as images than described in any form of language. I also use some of my art as a game I play with myself or the viewers, by embedding it with either details that require a second look, or meanings and stories that require explanations from me. At the end of the day, I’m just doing what I know best and creating whatever makes me happy.
